Since 2015, we have awarded 43 scholarships totaling $109,000. Stumptown Scholars typically graduate from college within 4 years and go onto a variety of careers and/or graduate schools.

Here is a look at the college students we are currently supporting:

Tran Huong $10,000 Scholarship

Huong’s family migrated to the USA in 2023. First Generation College Student

“My father started working at age 14 selling watermelons in Vietnam. I have opportunities here in Oregon that they my parents never had. They see and believe in me as the one who can fulfill the unfinished dreams they left behind. This scholarship helps me pursue my college degree with much less worry about debt and takes a huge burden off my parents. Thank you to everyone for believing in me.”

This scholarship will benefit not only me but also my parents. Because of this scholarship they don’t have to worry too much about paying for my college. Plus, they have my 5 younger siblings to look out for. This scholarship takes a big weight off their shoulders.

“My parents came to America as refugees. Because they lacked both money and English proficiency, they were not able to open a college savings account for me. I will be taking out loans and working to pay for college. This scholarship makes a huge difference for my family as I pursue my goal of becoming a mechanical engineer.”

“This scholarship was a crucial factor to my academic success at the University of Oregon! The Stumptown Scholarship provided me with a brand new MacBook that allowed me to attend online classes and I still make use of it today! This scholarship helps take the load off my tuition fees every year meaning less hours spent working and more hours spent focusing on my academics”.

We measure our success in many ways. By tracking our scholars, we have found that virtually all graduate college within 4 years. In addition, after graduation they typically go onto graduate schools and/or rewarding careers. Here’s a partial list of what past Stumptown Scholars are doing post college:
